ALAN JOHNSON
During the past 30 years, Alan Johnson has recreated numerous productions of West Side Story internationally. His
long association with Mel Brooks began with choreographing the famous (or infamous) "Springtime for Hitler"
number in The Producers, continuing with choreography for Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein,
High Anxiety, History of the World Part I, Dracula, Dead and Loving It and direction of
To Be or Not To Be, starring Mr. Brooks and Anne Bancroft. He has staged shows for
Ann-Margret, Chita Rivera, Ann
Reinking, Leslie Uggams, Bernadette Peters, and Peter Allen as well as directed and staged Shirley MacLaine's live
appearances for the past twenty years. His many television specials have earned him three Emmy Awards and five nominations;
he also received a Tony nomination for his work on Legs Diamond on Broadway. Alan has served on the Board of
Directors of both the L.A. Dance Foundation and Professional Dancers Society (PDS).
