PETE MENEFEE

A native of San Diego, California, Award-winning costume designer Pete Menefee began his entertainment career as a teen-aged dancer, featured in such films as Bye Bye Birdie (As "Harvey Johnson" in "The Telephone Hour" musical number), Kissin' Cousins, Mary Poppins, Viva Las Vegas, Girl Happy, Pajama Party, Beach Blanket Bingo and The One and Only Original Family Band. He also enlivened such TV musical variety of the 1960s as a member of The Action Faction on "Where the Action Is," "The Judy Garland Show," "The Hollywood Palace" and specials with Danny Thomas, Petula Clark, Peggy Fleming, Ann-Margret and the classic "Movin' with Nancy (Sinatra)." Pursuing his costume design talents, he made the transition in his early '20s and has since supplied dazzling designs to such stage productions as Hello Hollywood!, Jubilee!, Radio City Music Hall Christmas Extravaganza, Champions on Ice and concert acts for Shirley MacLaine, Lynda Carter and Rita Moreno. For television, his credits include multiple Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globes Awards shows, "Circus of the Stars," Miss Universe" "Miss USA," "Miss Teen USA," "Opening and Closing Ceremonies of Liberty Weekend," and has been honored with Emmy Awards for "The Big Show," "75th Anniversary of Las Vegas" special and most recently, "The Opening Ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics." He cites "I loved dancing for most of my dancing career - but the gift of knowing how movement 'works' is probably the single most important factor in my second career as a costume designer."
